Assalamualaikum wbt (May peace be upon you).

Surah An-Nahl (16:125)

1. Let me begin by saying alhamdulillah, all praise be upon Allah alone, for only by His will, I can now start writing this article.

2. Before I proceed, I would also like to extend my sincerest gratitude to my parents and family for their support and prayers since the day I was formed and born (about 9 months later). Also, to mention the following names for their participation, assistance and smiles I would always love to see again in the future.

3. I will precede this article with a brief report on the program I attended recently called Youth Leadership Program (YLP) which was held in KL and Pearl International Hotel (accomodation).

4. It was a 3-day program, held from 4th-6th of October this year in 2011. It involved 25 young people from 6 different countries and 8 different religious, spiritual and indigenous backgrounds. Their names are already mentioned above and yes, we do still stay in touch. 

5. As the name suggests, this program aimed to nurture leadership values amongst the participants who would do so through a series of workshops, team building activities and also community service. As Matthew (who was our 'captain' for the program) put it in his report here, it was mostly fun activities that required things to be done together in groups or pairs, so that we can mix with each other well enough and thus create better understanding and relationship.

6. From the way I see it, (and I know 3 days were indeed short), such emphasis on team building was a good strategy to begin with, so that what follows after that is what that will lead to the desired results in the future. I sure hope so, as in creating more harmony and happiness in this world. There's one wonderful saying that says, 'All it needs for evil to triumph is for good men to do nothing!'

7.  So let's do something! Yes, something! As we shared about our faiths during the program, it struck my mind again that we Muslims should start pondering about this, that Islam does not only teach us to talk and speak enthusiastically, but then end up taking no action at all. That's not Islam, that's NATO! For your information, NATO here means No Action Talk Only. Please do not register yourselves into it.

8. I already elaborated on this subject of walking the talk in my previous article on Senah Ribut (Malay Language). Do spend some time to read it.

9. To cut this short, we also discussed on event hosting and management which is important to know as leaders, because planning and executing a task is something we should be good at, if we were to lead others. And sure, there were many other things too. On the final day, we did some painting at school and yeah, not to forget, we had a wonderful amazing race!

10. All I hope, if I were to get the chance to be in such a program again is to make more friends and expand my friendship network so that I can learn more about others. Learning about others undoubtedly makes me learn my religion (deen) more and truly, it's inspiring and eye-opening. I think I have met many great people out there! Alhamdulillah (all praise be upon Allah).

"O mankind! We created you from a single (pair) of a male and a female, and made you into nations and tribes, that ye may know each other (not that ye may despise (each other)...."

Surah Al-Hujurat (49:13)

Pluralism

11. Right. Actually I wanted to write about Pluralism from the perspective of Islam. You see, having attended the program, we (me and 4 other Muslim friends, actually 5 if we include Ahmad from Australia) have somehow 'experienced' this environment of pluralism. It took us aback and I personally took some time to start coping too.

12. I mean, anything can happen in this world. Without knowledge and courage, we can easily slipped away from what we should hold firmly to, and for that it is important for us (as Muslims) to be Muslims because we understand and learn Islam, a Muslim by CHOICE, not by chance. In such a program, the atmosphere is so open, that we were exposed to many other practices of other faiths, and although we are not taught (in Islam) to despise other people of different faiths, it is imperative that we understand our limits ie. not to compromise our own faiths.

13. I totally don't agree if we need to leave our religion in order to unite and live in harmony with others. Instead, the ones who follow religion correctly will indeed prosper and live in a peaceful community. Like in Islam, the name itself is another form of the word 'Salam' in Arabic which means peace and therefore, we are basically not a true Muslim unless we promote peace and unity.

14. The most important thing to bear in mind for us Muslims is always to willingly accept and bear witness that there is no God worthy of being worshipped except Allah SWT (He has no associate or partner) and Muhammad (may peace be upon Him) was his servant and messenger, that he is also the final messenger, yet he is not another God!

15. Due to some constraints though, I will only elaborate more on the topic of 'Pluralism From the Perspective of Islam in my next article. It is a daunting task to write on this subject and I do not want to do so unprepared. In addition, I am waiting for Dr Khadijah (from University of Malaya) who is willing to share her wonderful paperwork after she finalised it soon and I am glad to inform you here that  insya Allah I will share the paperwork with you too.

16. To end, I thank you for your time and please stay tuned. Pluralism is indeed a very interesting topic, yet very relevant these days, and I shall present it to you some time later insya Allah. Senah Ribut

Bismillahirrahmanirrahim.

Assalamualaikum wbt.

1. Siapa jugak yang tinggal di Seberang Takir atau kawasan sekitarnya pasti pernah dengar nama Senah Ribut. Kalau tak pernah dengar memang ah *dengan nada samseng kampung*

2. Senah Ribut ialah seorang wanita yang agak terkenal di kampung ni. Khabarnya, dia sudah beberapa kali berkahwin dan bercerai, hanya Allah yang lebih tahu. 

3. Ya, saya bukan sahabatnya mahupun kawannya. Dia hanya orang kampung saya. Jarang jugak saya melihatnya. Sebab sejak umur 13 tahun sampai sekarang (hampir 10 tahun), saya belajar di luar negeri Terengganu.

4. Senah Ribut ini juga bukanlah seorang artis. Tapi saya rasa dia terkenal dengan perwatakannya yang tersendiri dan dia mungkin tidak seberapa sempurna dari segi kewarasan akalnya, pun begitu pada saya dia juga manusia biasa seperti kita semua yang lainnya.

5. Dengan lagaknya yang berani bertindak balas bila orang mengusik mahupun mengejeknya, dia lantaran itu menjadi lebih terkenal dan kadang-kadang menjadi bahan lawak budak-budak kampung. Kasihan dia.

6. Ceritanya begini.

7. Hari ni, saya pulang dari kedai menaiki basikal seperti seorang budak lelaki yang comel. Err.. maksud saya, cute. *eh sama lah tue!*

8. Tiba-tiba dia berada di tepi jalan memanggil saya meminta tolong. "Adik, tolong akak dik...."

9. Saya pun bertukar menjadi Keluang Man. Ok, itu tak betul. Saya pun meluru ke arahnya. "Kenapa kak?"

10. "Motor akak, rosak. Adik boleh tolong tak dik?" Gulp.. saya menelan air liur. Kelihatan kenalan di kedai di seberang jalan melambai-lambai memberi isyarat, "Jangan tolong, biar je dia tu kui kui kui.." Saya serba salah.

11. Saya kuatkan hati. "Macam mana ni ek?" Bukan apa, budak-budak kampung yang berbasikal pun sudah mula berkumpul, sambil memerhatikan gelagat akak Senah kita ni. Siapa juga di tempat saya mesti rasa malu nak menolong. Seolah-olah ada bisikan di telinga yang berkata,"Oi, tak malu ke?"

12. Ya, jujurnya, saya malu. Tapi saya cuba ubah niat di hati. "Ya Allah aku hanya ingin menolongnya."

13. Lalu kami berjalan menuju ke motornya. "Ya Allah, ini motor ke, tempeyek kena lenyek?" Sentap hati saya. Semua tercabut. Semua tak kena. Maaflah saya bukannya kenal sangat bahagian-bahagian motor ni. Maka agak sukar untuk saya gambarkan keadaan motosikal akak Senah dalam cerita ni.

14. Tapi yang penting, tempat letak kunci memang tak ada. Dah tercabut. Jadi, motor akak Senah ni  memang sentiasa dalam keadaan 'standby.' Tempat duduk dan body depan pun dah tercabut. Alahai kak, apa ke nasib akak ni...

Agak-agaklah brother. Of course la bukan ini motornya hehe..

15. Dipendekkan cerita, rupanya tempat tekan gear dah tak berapa nak berfungsi sebab tersekat dengan besi  tongkat motor di bawah. Jadi saya terpaksa berjalan ke rumah yang tak jauh dari situ untuk ambil penukul. Lalu mulalah saya bertukang dengan menukul akak Senah. Eh, silap! Saya tukul besi tulah, kenapa Kak Senah pulak haish. *Budak-budak basikal mula berkumpul lagi, melihat telatah kami. Saya tak rasa famous pun. Ada yang mengacah-acah Senah. "Sabar je lah," kata saya dalam hati*

16. Saya tak rasa saya membantu. Saya mana tahu bab-bab motor ni. Saya bukannya Mat Rempit. "Macam mana ni?" Rungut saya dalam hati.

17. Dalam keadaan yang cukup saspen dan mencemaskan ni, datanglah Undertaker. Hehe, bukan, datanglah sorang abang yang memang saya kenal. Tapi maaflah, saya tak berapa ingat namanya. Cuma dia ni brother yang jual minyak motor di kedai berdekatan.

18. Dia datang, dan Senah terus ceritakan apa yang berlaku. Lalu dengan tangannya yang jauh lebih besar dan kuat daripada saya dia menghayun tukul besi saya ke arah besi tongkat motosikal seperti seorang badang yang perkasa. Sungguh menakjubkan. Kalau saya seorang gadis, mungkin juga saya terpikat. 

19. Akhir cerita, selesailah masalah. Senah balik dan saya berterima kasih kepada brother tadi. Dia senyum sempoi dan pulang dengan motosikalnya yang tak berapa nak baru juga. Biasalah, orang kampung.

20. Baik, sebenarnya saya nak cerita begini. Demi Allah saya berasa amat malu. Brother tadi, hanya kerja di kedai jual minyak motor. Pakaiannya biasalah, dengan minyak motor dan minyak hitam di sana-sini. Memang agak tak berapa bersih dan compang-camping. Setahu saya, dia ni juga bukanlah lulusan universiti, hanya teruna kampung biasa di kampung ni.

21. Tahu tak apa dia cakap pada saya? "Apa lah diorang ni, nak tolong pun malu ke?" *dalam dialek Terengganu of course.* Dia menujukan kata-katanya kepada orang kampung yang hanya lalu lalang menjeling tapi tak berani membantu Senah.

22. Saya hanya mengangguk. Tersentap hati saya! Teringat definisi akhlak dalam Islam. Akhlak ialah sikap atau perlakuan yang datang secara sendiri, tak perlu paksa, ia datang spontan. Tapi saya struggle untuk paksa diri saya untuk merelakan diri membantu Senah. Alangkah malunya!

23. Saya belajar tinggi-tinggi. Sedang mengaji di universiti. Tapi di mana akhlak saya menolong orang? Tersentap hati saya. Adakah standard saya terlalu tinggi sampaikan terlalu hina untuk menolong orang sepertinya? Saya berfikir sejenak. Saya risau saya bukan seorang diri begini. Mungkin ramai lagi yang begini. Mungkinkah ini juga cabaran umat masa kini?

24. "Dan bahawa sesungguhnya engkau (Muhammad SAW) mempunyai akhlak yang amat mulia."

Surah Al-Qalam (68:4)

"Akhlak Rasulullah SAW itu adalah Al-Quran."

25. Lantas tergerak hati untuk saya berkongsi tentang cerita ni. Saya amat risau, kita semua banyak bercakap, menulis dan menaip tentang Islam, tetapi adakah kita juga melaksanakannya? Adakah kita sekadar tahu bercakap? Dan adakah kita terlalu mulia sehinggakan harus memilih dalam membantu orang lain? Nauzubillah ya Ghafur, Tuhanku yang Maha Pengampun..

26. "Wahai orang-orang yang beriman! Mengapa kamu memperkatakan apa yang kamu tidak lakukannya?"

Surah As-Saff (61:2)

27. Kenapa kita cakap tak serupa bikin? Actions speak louder than words do we know not?

28. Sebagai penutup, saya benar-benar mendapat pengajaran yang besar dalam peristiwa yang berlaku pada saya ini. Moga Allah menganugerahkan syurga kepada brother tadi yang cukup sempoi biasa dan mungkin dhaif pada penampilannya, tapi hatinya cukup ikhlas sebesar gunung, seluas langit. Benar-benar mengingatkan saya tentang kisah seorang pelacur yang masuk syurga kerana memberi minum anjing. Pada saya, kisah sebegini menggambarkan ganjaran yang cukup besar buat orang yang benar-benar tulus dan ikhlas dalam amal perbuatannya, tidak kira siapapun dia, apapun statusnya.

29. Saya menegur diri saya sendiri dan kalian semua, bahawa Islam itu indah bukan hanya pada kata-kata dan tulisan pena, tetapi pada amal dan melazimkannya. Moga Allah memasukkan kita dalam golongan yang sentiasa mendapat hidayah amin...

30. Ayuh, jangan terlalu banyak soal bicara. Ilmu pun dicari, dicari juga. Tapi yang penting, amalkanlah mereka. Teringat satu kata-kata yang cukup pedas dalam artikel tulisan Pahrol Mohd Juoi di sini, "Alangkah dungunya kita kalau hanya sibuk menghafal nama makanan sedangkan orang lain telah memakannya!"

31. Begitulah umpamanya. Kita sibuk membicarakan ilmu. Orang lain sudahpun merasai nikmat mengamalkan ilmu itu!

Wallahuaklam, moga bermanfaat, dan jika ya, segalanya datang daripada Allah SWT. Yang kurang, pasti itu kelemahan saya.

Marriage or Wreckage

Bismillahirrahmanirrahim.

Assalamualaikum wbt.

1. We could possibly reach a point in Malaysia whereby it is easier, rather much easier for a couple to resort to fornication than to go for marriage! Maybe this is already really the case now?

2. Not only that men and women are now more frequently mingling around with each other, the fact that a significant amount of people practice not the proper way of covering their bodies (especially women)  undeniably adds more salt to social injuries. More promotions, cheap sales and free shows are ongoing.

3. Interestingly, while the door to evil is widely open, the door to goodness and permissibility is closely shut, with a dozen of giant padlocks and guarded with a thousand of knights! 

4. Ok, that's very figurative, but I am talking about marriage. Our respected Ustaz Zaharuddin in his latest article here speaks of the financial burden facing many of our young gentlemen whom are pursuing marriage.

5. As I do not plan to make this long, I would like to make a simple commentary that I hope women especially their families do make a lot of thoughts about this saddening ongoing issues.

6. It was narrated by Ibn Hibban that our beloved Prophet SAW once said that the most preferable woman is one that has a low mahar (dowry) for his marriage. This is not to downgrade the status or value of women, but having a women whose intention is only to get money from his husband makes her the cheapest lady in the world, because the best women are not purchased, but mahar to them are merely a sincere gift.

7. In other words, there should be a balance between the two i.e not to burden the future husband but also not to do any injustice to the future bride.

8. Few have the awareness that marriage is not about wedding, it's about life after aqad (marriage knot) instead. So, most of the money should be spent for the rest of the life after wedding, not during the fantasy day of wedding which usually lasts only a day or two.

9. But then again, the emphasis now is the stories before marriage.

10. According to the National Department of Registration (Jabatan Pendaftaran Negara Malaysia), since 2000 to July 2008, a staggering number of 257 000 babies were registered without father, or in other words, born outside marriage. A simple mathematical postulation from this shocking figure would give us a rate of one illegal baby in every 17 minutes 17 seconds!

11. And you ought to agree with me that there are a lot more out there that went unregistered.

12. I leave to us to do the rest of the thinking and analysis. We pray to Allah, that He saves many innocent babies that are dumped by their under pressured mothers. We long for marriages, not wreckage!

13. As a final note, my best wishes and prayers to my teacher and mentor, Bro. Rafizi Ramli whom is officially becoming a husband today. May Allah bless you and your beloved wife. And your family too. Barakallahufik.

2. I am writing this for specifically 3 things. Therefore, with an intense hope that you would remember these 3 important points, I make it simpler for you by calling them 3As.

3. These 3As are Appreciation, Apologies and Aspiration that I have in mind and which I intend to bring forward to you.

Appreciation

4. First off, let me sincerely thank my fellow unsung heroes (and heroins of course- no, not drugs =p) for bits and pieces, chunks and masses of your support, time, opinions and contribution all this while in making a lot of our plans for MSOC (Muslim Society) materialize.

21. Naz! Apa habaq noo? (hehe). I sincerely thank you in case you have to struggle to forgive me for many mistakes or jokes that I attempted to make. I am not a bomber and you know what I mean. You and Wanie seem to me like a pair of twins, but the best thing about it is when you both work well when together. I learn some friendship values from both of you. Here's a special note for you by the way. I have a feeling that there's something unique about you and Wanie that you can use to present Islam. Explore and make it a reality. And so, thanks for that!

22. Dr. Aziz is our wonderful advisor of the society. I owe him abundant of thanks for many advice and supports he has given to all of us and also for our activities. Many of his advice- which are sincere and powerful advice will always be in my mind insya Allah and surely help make me a better Muslim ameen. Thanks a million sir! ;-)

Apologies

23. I don't want to apologize to any of you above because I have praised you guys a lot, can or not? Right, let me still apologize. I know it is something you guys deserve. One final statement to each of you (above) is this. 

24. If there is anything good you benefited from me, or can learn and take lesson from me and my action, bear in mind that it is a gift from Allah and certainly not coming from my own fallible self. And for many things that I may have done wrongly, for hearts I may have hurt and for weaknesses from me that may not make me a good example to follow, I hope you can forgive me and more importantly, turn them into a kind advice for me to improve, so that I can always try my best to be a better person. Thanks in advance.

25. I am also very sorry and feel deeply indebted to all other people who have guided me along the way until I am whom I am today.

26. Special thanks and prayers to my lovely brothers, Aiman Nasir, Mukhlis Rahimi, Azlan, Amal, Karim, Kamal, and also wonderful lovely sisters, Kak Aimi Hamizah, Kak Annisa, Kak Fae, Akmar, Radhi, and each and everyone of you whom I may not be able to list here.

27. Not to forget the staffs, especially Kak Khairun, Kak Liza, Kak Azura, Kak Aznah, Bro Azman and others for whatever good things you have given to me. There are a lot really. Thank you and please forgive me for anything wrong I made =)

Aspiration

28. It's getting late at night and I think I ate a lot just now so I start to feel sleepy and a bit tired. However, let me finish this entry with the most important part of it, which is what I aspire from the new committee and the ones coming in the future.

29. You see, I remember telling this to my committee, that the moment you left MSOC, you have to ask yourselves, are you the same person you were before you joined MSOC? If so, then I am afraid it will be such a great loss.

30. Therefore, always remember, although it is our dream to work for Islam and people around us, the most important thing is always to correct our intention by making a noble promise to learn and gain experience as much as we can, and do it for the sake of pleasing Allah (while working in MSOC).

31. This was what that kept me strong (though sometimes I fell short) all this while. Whether or not you succeed, when you know that you have done your best and you want to learn, you surely have reaped something useful out of it.

32. Also, please remember that you guys now (in current MSOC committee) have everything that it needs to be the best committee in MSOC history and therefore an ideal benchmark for people to come- at least that's the way I see it so please don't disappoint me. Otherwise, it's again a waste of talent. 

33. Let me end this humble post by also thanking 'Ijjlal and gang in As-Shifa' magazine. Well, don't worry I think I am leaving all the things related to IMU except maybe this (magazine) team- at least for now ;-)

34. Thank you very much for your time and I ask Allah to continuously inspire us to study well and do well in our life, to have sincerity in our works and also to be guided by Him, now and always.
